Tripura leaders, student bodies and a Union minister demanded action after the clip circulated; the content creator apologised and said the video was scripted.

A video circulating on social media showed Delhi-based content creator Amir Shokeen addressing a young man from Tripura with remarks that outlets described as racially derogatory, prompting complaints, political condemnation and a police case (Pratidin Time, DNA India). The Times of India reported the purported video showed Shokeen calling the youth "chinky", "China president" and "Michael Jackson" (The Times of India), while Hindustan Times reported he also called him "Chinese" and compared his appearance to a pop star and to the Chinese president (Hindustan Times). Shokeen later posted an apology, saying the exchange was scripted and intended as humour (The Sentinel, The Free Press Journal).

What every report agrees on

All reports agree that the clip surfaced online and drew widespread criticism over the targeting of people from the Northeast on the basis of appearance (Pratidin Time, Business Today). The Youth Tipra Federation, the youth wing of the Tipra Motha Party, lodged a complaint at NCC Police Station in Agartala seeking legal action (NorthEast Now), and the Tripura Students Forum Delhi submitted a representation to a Joint Commissioner of Police in Delhi seeking an FIR and a probe (The New Indian Express). Chief Minister Manik Saha directed police to coordinate with Delhi Police (The Indian Express), and Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju said strict action would follow (Business Today, India Today). Reports also agree that Shokeen apologised and said the video was scripted and that the man in it was known to him (The Sentinel, Mathrubhumi, The Indian Express), and that a case was registered and police began investigating (ABP Live, Mathrubhumi).

How the left-leaning press told it

The Indian Express, Hindustan Times and The New Indian Express: Demand for police action

Left-leaning outlets led with the official and institutional response. The Indian Express, rated centre-left, reported the Chief Minister's direction to police, the Youth Tipra Federation complaint alleging racial harassment, cyberbullying and hate speech against indigenous communities, and noted the apology and the scripted-video claim alongside continuing criticism online (The Indian Express). Hindustan Times, rated centre-left, set out the specific words attributed to Shokeen in the clip and carried Rijiju's condemnation (Hindustan Times). The New Indian Express, rated centre-left, focused on the Tripura Students Forum Delhi representation, which it said alleged sexual assault, racial abuse and public humiliation (The New Indian Express).

How the right-leaning press told it

The Times of India, The Economic Times, India Today and ABP Live: Political leaders condemn

Outlets rated centre-right carried the same sequence, with some emphasis on political reaction. The Times of India reported Tipra Motha founder Pradyot Kishore Manikya Debbarma calling the episode an insult to the people of the state and listed the slurs attributed to Shokeen (The Times of India). India Today led on Rijiju's statement that the man would be punished and that Delhi and Tripura police would act, while noting the apology and the claim that the video was humour (India Today). ABP Live reported the apology and the registration of a case (ABP Live), and The Economic Times placed party condemnations beside Shokeen's Facebook explanation that the video was scripted and the man had worked at a friend's cafe in Ahmedabad (The Economic Times).

The coverage of this story does not divide along left and right lines.

What the record shows

Left- and right-leaning outlets did not differ in their account: both led with the complaints and the demand for police action and both reported the apology. The documented steps are the Youth Tipra Federation complaint in Agartala (NorthEast Now), the Tripura Students Forum Delhi representation in New Delhi (The New Indian Express), the Chief Minister's instruction to coordinate with Delhi Police (The Indian Express), Rijiju's public statement (Business Today, India Today), and the registration of an FIR with a police investigation under way (Mathrubhumi, ABP Live). What the reports do not settle is the character of the exchange: outlets including The Times of India, India Today, DNA India, ABP Live, Hindustan Times, Business Today, NorthEast Now and Pratidin Time describe it as racial abuse and humiliation (The Times of India, India Today, DNA India, ABP Live, Hindustan Times, Business Today, NorthEast Now, Pratidin Time), while The Sentinel, The Free Press Journal and Mathrubhumi carry Shokeen's account that the clip was scripted, the man was an acquaintance who had worked at a friend's cafe, and no insult was intended (The Sentinel, The Free Press Journal, Mathrubhumi). The Shillong Times reported that Shokeen's brothers condemned his conduct, demanded strict legal action and said they had lived apart from him for 12 to 15 years (The Shillong Times).
